Pay for services as you go with milestone payments
Paying for a good or service and want money released only at certain stages? Milestone transactions let you release funds step by step, only when you are happy with each stage.
How a milestone transaction works
1. Agree on schedule
Buyer and seller agree the stages, what each one delivers and what it is worth.
2. Buyer pays Rbcpay
The buyer funds the transaction and the seller sees that the money is secured.
3. Seller provides the service
The seller completes the first stage of the agreed schedule.
4. Buyer approves the milestone
The buyer reviews that stage and approves it before work continues.
5. Rbcpay pays the seller
The funds for that stage are released. The remaining funds stay protected.
Where milestone payments work best
Long-running projects
Work that runs over weeks or months, where neither side wants the whole amount resting on a single final handover.
Development and design
Software, web and design work delivered in phases, with each phase reviewed before the next begins.
Staged deliveries
Goods delivered in batches, where each shipment is checked and released before the next is dispatched.
Brokered and complex deals
Multi-party transactions where the deal completes in stages and the broker’s commission is released alongside.
Break a large commitment into approved stages
Instead of one large payment resting on a single outcome, the transaction is split into stages that both parties define at the start. Each stage is released on its own approval.
- Stages and values agreed before any payment
- Approve and release one stage at a time
- Remaining funds stay protected throughout
Both sides stay committed to the end
The seller knows the full amount is already funded rather than promised. The buyer knows they are never more than one stage ahead of what has actually been delivered.
- Seller sees the whole amount is secured up front
- Buyer never pays ahead of delivery
- Disputes are contained to a single stage
Milestone transaction questions
Who decides what the milestones are?
The buyer and seller agree the stages, what each one delivers and what it is worth, before the transaction is funded.
What happens if we disagree about one stage?
Only the funds for that stage are affected. The rest of the transaction remains held by Rbcpay and is resolved under the terms both parties accepted.
Can milestones be used together with a broker?
Yes. A brokered transaction can be structured into milestones, with the broker’s commission released progressively alongside the seller’s payments.
Ready to structure a milestone transaction?
Define the stages, fund it once, and release payment only as each stage is approved.
